Superbowl and the Home Team

So the Superbowl is this Sunday. Will I watch? Yes. I am a sports fan after all and do try to catch the major sporting events. But the more important question is who to root for? My local team did not make the playoffs so I can't root for them. Do I root for the Colts since they are from the same conference as my home team? I don't know yet who I will be rooting for Sunday.

What do people who live in cities that don't have a football team do? Who do they root for? Thanks to cable, satellite and the internet is there a reason to root for the home team anymore? I know a lot of people who root for other teams than the one from their city. Part of it is because they moved here from another town, but part is they just prefer other teams.

There is also the issue of teams moving from city to city. Also players change teams regularly. There is no loyalty to the fans anymore. So why show loyalty back to the home team? The rise of fantasy sports also plays a part. I have played for years now and find that it makes me root more for individual players without caring which team actually wins. As long as my players do well I am happy. If my team wins too well that is a bonus. Is this a good thing for sports? The lack of identification with the home team? I am not sure. Only time will tell.

go underdog. and let's face it, the browns are not making it anytime soon. that's why you are always safe with an nfc team, like me and the giants. when they play the browns i go, and no one gives me a hard time. they just ask why, and move on. it's not like being a pitts fan...
