Remembering 9/11...

I am curious how others feel about yesterday's anniversary. For me it was just another work day. A couple of co-workers commented on the date, but that was the extent of it. No customers even mentioned it. With the exception of New Yorkers and the media did the rest of the country even care? I don't say that in a callas way. Most events that happen are mere blips on our radar. Unless they touch you personally how long does the event stay in the forefront? A perfect example is the war in Iraq. Unless you have a relative or friend/neighbor over there, how many of us think about it each day? The media does its best to keep it in the news, but most of the country has other concerns that are more immediate. If they didn't we would not be in Iraq right now. Again I can't blame people. More immediate concerns such as health care, mortgage problems, debt, etc should take priority. I wonder in 50 or 100 years when later generations look back on September 11, 2001 if it will be remembered as anything more than just another terrorist incident...

it came to mind for me. i opened each of my classes with a patriot day 'greeting', but i didn't dwell on it in any way. in response to your question about what will it be in fifty years or more...it will become our pearl harbor. we understand it, but it means more to those who lived it.
