Sarah Palin's college experience...

I did not graduate in 4 years. I changed majors part way through which added some time. But I at least stayed in the same school. Sarah Palin went to 5 colleges in 6 years to get her degree? This is the type of person we want in the 2nd highest political office? If she gets bored with being vice president is she going to quit and take another position? She obviously has commitment issues...

What has McCain done in the Senate this term?

Being bored I was using Stumbleupon to surf the web. I came across this page. During the current session of Congress McCain has missed 371 votes which comes out to 61.6% of the total votes. If he was my Senator I would not be very happy to have elected someone who cannot even bother to vote even half of the time. In case you were wondering Barack Obama missed 43.5% of the votes and Hillary Clinton missed 33.4%. Maybe we should have a rule if you are already in office and decide to run for a different office you should have to resign your current position. People like to make fun of Dennis Kucinich, who is my Congressman, but at least he only missed 9.3% of the votes. Again it would really piss me off to have my elected representative in Congress missing that many votes. If they care that little about representing me now how much are they going to care if they get elected President?

I don’t want to rain on the thing for her but being a cheerleader for something is slightly different from being a principal player.

So much for her big claim of foreign policy experience. And the Belfast Telegraph's quote is even better

Mrs Clinton admired a stainless steel tea pot, which was duly given to her, for keeping the brew "so nice and hot".

The Chicago Tribune has weighed in on her lack of experience too. The key point out of this article for me is this quote

in fact, it is rare for any president to have that kind of experience before coming into office.

Even McCain does not really have foreign policy experience. So if none of the candidates do then maybe we should focus on other things?

Texas Caucuses and will it ever end...

It looks like the media may have jumped the gun again. Hillary may have won the popular vote, but now it looks like Obama will come out of Texas with more delegates thanks to his win in the caucuses. Naturally it will take a few more months to sort out and Hillary's camp has already threatened to sue. Why is it so hard to pick a nominee? And what the hell is up with states having caucuses anyway? Having to stand up and announce your vote in public among your peers may sound like a good idea, but in reality are people voting their real choices? We constantly see how polls can be wrong before an election as well as the exit polls after. People will say what they think is the popular choice out loud and then vote differently in private. That is their right. And by holding a caucus they are losing that right. Enough already. There still is the issue of Florida and Michigan. For whatever reason they ignored the Democratic National Committee rules and set their primaries earlier. The DNC responded by saying the votes in those states will not be counted towards deciding who wins the nomination. The states went ahead anyway and now those votes are in limbo. Naturally Hilary is insisting the votes should count since she won both states. Their has been talk of having new elections, but the decision on who would pay for them is still undecided. It is estimated it would cost $25 million to hold another election in Florida alone. As an outsider I cannot understand what the states were thinking of? The DNC sets the rules. How can you not understand that? All this does is show just how messed up our election process has become. No wonder we get the candidates we do. What quality person would want to put up with all of this? So in the end we get what we deserve...

McCain over the edge?

Well, this makes things a little easier for me. I had still thought that John McCain had some good ideas and if he won the election I would not be that upset. No more. I have now lost complete respect for him and could never in good conscious vote for him. It is amazing how a politician can lose every ideal he has stood for when he panders for votes...

Holy Constitution!

You would think Huckabee would be smart enough to quit saying things like this: "I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards." Dennis Kucinich runs his campaign on real ideas for improving this country and can't get enough votes to allow him to appear on the debates anymore. And yet we are forced to keep listening to this clown. Wake up people. He is a religious zealot and is not the answer for this country. Here is a link to the rest of the article.

Follow the money...

It is both scary and sickening to see how much money is involved in elections today. We are just under a year from the next presidential election and the amount of money already raised and spent by the candidates is astounding. Think about it. Hilary has already spent over $22 million and has over $50 million on hand ready to spend. Obama has spent over $21 million and has $36 million on hand. Both of them are around $80 million in total contributions so far. On the Republican side Milt Romney leads the way spending over $21 million so far. None of the Republican candidates have the cash on hand like the top two democrats though. The point that seems to be glossed over in all of this is with all the money being raised and spent are there any strings attached? Do we honestly feel that the candidates will not take into account who donated what if they are elected? Of course not. And democracy continues to waste away...

Facts for Features Special Edition...

The U.S. Census Bureau has released a 2008 Presidential Election report as we head toward primary season. There are some interesting numbers on voting in the last Presidential election. 72% of voting-age citizens,who were registered to vote, did so in 2004. I would have guessed much lower. Of course this is just registered voters. It does not include citizens who did not bother to register. Who always seem to be the ones that complain the most about our government, but I digress. We had a record high number of people vote in 2004. And we still elected Bush? Again I digress. Women continue to vote more than men do--65%-62%. Hillary anyone? 80% turnout rate for citizens with a bachelor's degree or higher. And we still elected Bush? Whites lead the way in turnout with 67%. What surprised me the most was Asians and Hispanics had turnout rates of 44% and 47% respectively. This was consistent with the results of the previous election. I would have thought both groups would vote more...
