Fans of Nevada Barr will be surprised when they pick up her latest book. This is no Anna Pigeon novel. Instead we meet the “Butcher Boy”, an 11 year old boy who brutally murders his parents and little sister and then does not remember a thing. Mystery fans will figure out the twist well before the end. At least when that happens with the Anna Pigeon books, we keep reading because we like the character. Here, I never really connected with the characters which at times made it more of a chore to finish. The only reason I did read to the end is because I am a fan of Nevada Barr and wanted to see if she could finish off the story with a better ending than I expected. Unfortunately she didn’t…
