Facebook and the herd mentality...
I am on Facebook. Sort of. I deleted my original account and then later created a new one. Which I then stripped down to bare minimum after awhile. Curiosity then made me expand my account for a time until I got bored again and deleted all my groups and fan pages. I also cut my applications back to almost nothing. Currently I don't really have any interest in it anymore. What's the point of it? Am I the only one that wonders about this? Apparently I am after reading this today. 200 million users? That is just insane. What is really crazy is I still cannot find any of the people on there that I have lost touch with over the years which was my original reason for joining. So who is joining? Where do they come from? This is the problem with any free site. Anyone can join and many do just to try and keep from missing out on the next hot thing. I wonder how many people on Facebook actively use the site? Or how many people sign up for an account, play around with it for a time, and then never look at it again unless they get an email notification. How long before the herd moves on to the next "big" social networking site? More importantly where do we want to be on the curve? I just know I don't want to be where the herd is. The view from the cheap seats is not the best place to be...
