The wife got a letter in the mail today offering home mortgage insurance. Why we would get a letter now when we have owned our home over 10 years now is a mystery. I did get a good laugh out of the fine print on the back. There was a long list of things that are not covered. I just had to share a couple.
Things not covered:
Suicide, attempted suicide or intentionally self-inflicted injury while sane or insane--in MO and CO while sane (so an insane person in those two states are free to kill themselves to have their beneficiaries get paid?); any war or act of war---declared or undeclared (so if I get blown up by a terrorist I am out of luck?); full-time military service (part-timers feel free to get killed. Oh wait the previous caveat cuts you out too); sickness and its treatment, including diagnosis (if I get sick and die no payout?);bacterial infections, except through a wound accidentally sustained (so if I get a hospital bacterial infection and die I am out of luck?)
There were other exclusions listed. I guess the point is if it is at all possible for my beneficiary to sue someone for my death they won't pay? How many people still sign up for policies like these? Paying for this is betting that you are going to die before your mortgage is paid. There is a sucker born every minute...
