The cost of saving money...
Like a lot of people I like to save money when shopping. Why spend more money than you have to if you can still get a comparable product. Right? Then you read about things like this. I have purchased Two Buck Chuck (it is actually more than $2 here in Ohio but that is another story) and still have some down in our basement. It seemed like a good idea at the time. My wife, who is the wine drinker, has moved on to better wines already so at least I don't have to worry about buying any more. We hear about the terrible working conditions in other countries all the time. But we don't always hear about how bad it can be in our own country. Here is a company that hires illegal immigrants to work in unsafe conditions. They already had been cited previously for unsafe working conditions. And now a pregnant teenager is dead. Just so people can save a few bucks on a bottle of wine? Is it worth it? I know the reality is we only have so much money to spend and have to shop wisely to make our dollars stretch. That does not mean we can't take a little time and effort to make sure our dollars go to companies that at least make an effort to try and do the right thing for their workers and the environment. Yes, I am guilty too of not always doing this. But that does not mean I can't change...

Shame on Trader Joe's, that's unbelievable. I hope they stop carrying it.
