Your next lingerie purchase...

With the holiday season in full shopping mode here is another thing to think about. I have purchased lingerie for my significant other here as I am sure many many other men have. I will have to think twice now. The problem is if there are any other places that make the same products, but under better working conditions. We think free trade is the answer to finding the widest available number of products at the lowest prices. What we often fail to realize is the price we don't see. The backbreaking work of laborers who are paid almost nothing to work under conditions that would be criminal here. I like to save money just like the rest of us. But I also have to look at myself in the mirror every morning. Which is why I refuse to shop at Walmart. And I think I will have to add Victoria's Secret to my list of establishments I will not shop at....

Um, many other men have purchased lingerie for your significant other? Heh. Wow. You'll have to blog about that sometime...

Secondly, in some sense Victoria's Secret garments can be (or at one time were) considered luxury goods, products above the commonplace items of their type that set a higher standard in production and quality and whose reputation for quality is enhanced by a certain mystique. This article really just showcases that despite it's attractive veneer Victoria's Secret is as crude and as crass a money grubber as any other company. And no amount of fashion shows or scantily clad models will change that.

Agreed! And now you can get even better lingerie at a less expensive rate via other venues.

That's disgusting. I hope they really get nailed for their slave labor. You know, the Limited Company also owns The Limited (well duh!), Express, Structure and possibly Lane Bryant. Makes me wonder how those clothes are made now....
