Shoot or not to Shoot, that is the question...
Trying to decide where I fall on this. Self-defense is an obvious issue and I am for that. If it comes down to me or them well there is no question. If it comes down to my wife or them again no question. But what about my property? It is worth a life to protect my Xbox 360? I worry about the direction we are going. We read in the papers and see on tv all the time how someone broke into a home and robbed, raped, or murdered some innocent individual. We have some sick people in this country. Is this the answer though? Do we make the average homeowner judge, jury and executioner? Will this deter criminals from burglary or will it cause them to become more violent in retaliation? I wish I knew...

i say go for it. enter my house. you are a threat to me and those who are in it, and that which it houses.
take this side...if that does happen [god forbid] does that make you less vulnarable. by taking action first, what kind of statement does that send?
to me it sends a message of 'don't fuck with me and my shit.' and no one will. when word gets out that some motherfucker was shot dead, for breaking and entering, maybe the dirtbags will think twice.
[shalom...]
I just worry that it will raise the violence level all around. The homeowner and criminal will both look to shoot first at any sound. And we both know in that situation it won't take long before a teen or other family member returning home late at night is mistaken for an intruder...
i hear you on that; however i had a situation the other night where my wife and i were woken up at one thirty in the morning by someone knocking on our door, and i answered it with a baseball bat, if i had the time it would have been with the gun, cocked and loaded...
