Male librarian?
This caught my eye this afternoon. All I can say is about time. Some professions are dominated by one gender. That is a fact of life. I happen to work in one that is largely female. When I was hired at my present branch I was the only male employee. Now we do have one other, but he is just a page (pages shelve library materials for those that did not know). Being the only male or at best in the minority will always be the case for my profession. I can deal with it. Issues do pop up from time to time but nothing that really bothers me. I do get the occasional customer that seems shocked to see a male working the reference desk. Or worse they look at me and then walk past to ask my female colleague their question. It used to get me down when the happened but I am used to it by now. I can't change people's attitudes. All I can do is the best customer service I can and answer the questions I do get...

Top 13 Web Tools for Librarians...
I found this list on another site and thought is was too good not to pass on. Librarians really are behind the times as a whole. There is a group that is on the cutting edge, but unfortunately they are few and far between. What is sad is the ones who refuse to learn any new technologies. They do not seem to realize that the reality of library life is change or die. We compete with bookstores, video stores, and even coffee shops now. If we refuse to compete then why would anyone vote for levy increases. We have to move with the times and find our customers wherever they may be...
